As we’ve briefly pointed out at the start of this article, the nearest train station from Penrose is Aljunied MRT station (East-West Line). It’s a 7-minute walk away via Lorong 23 Geylang. From Aljunied MRT station, you’re a stop away to Paya Lebar MRT station, where you will be connected with the Circle Line. You will also be just five stops away to Raffles Place MRT station.
Need to access the Downtown Line? Hop on a 10-minute bus ride to Mattar MRT station (Downtown Line). From Mattar MRT station, you can conveniently get to Chinatown in six train stops.
There’s a bus stop located right outside Penrose. Located along Sims Drive, there are three buses servicing the area – 64, 134, and 137. Bus 64 stops by Canossa Convent Primary, Boon Keng MRT station (North-East Line), and Anchorpoint shopping centre. Bus 134 gets you to Geylang Polyclinic, Tanjong Katong Girls’ School, and Parkway Parade shopping centre.

2. Grocery, shopping and services
The nearest supermarket is U Stars Supermarket along 43 Lorong 25 Geylang. It’s about a 10-minute walk from Penrose. For a more familiar option, you can head to FairPrice along Block 114 Aljunied Avenue 2. It’s slightly further away but within 1km from the property.
For your shopping needs, you can hop on a bus to get to Paya Lebar Square or PLQ Mall. Or if you prefer, ride the train one stop to Paya Lebar MRT station, where the shopping malls are located at. FairPrice Finest is located at basement two of PLQ Mall. You will also find fashion brands like Aldo, G2000, and H&M.
Run your errands at PLQ Mall conveniently. Whether you’re looking to exchange some foreign currency or send your suits and dresses for dry cleaning, the mall has some options for you.
Prefer a variety of shopping alternatives? Sure! Take a less than 10-minute drive from Penrose and you can get to SingPost Centre, Tanjong Katong Complex, and KINEX shopping mall.
3. Food options
Sims Vista Market & Food Centre along 49 Sims Place is a 2-minute walk away from Penrose! The hawker centre is open from 6am and has your favourite minced meat noodles, comfort congee, and roasted chicken rice. For weekends cafe vibes, head to Builders at Sims along Sims Place.
There are also options near Aljunied MRT station – 25 Food Loft, Ho Kee Pau, and Mufiz Restaurant. Kwan Inn Vegetarian is a vegetarian option you can go to just five minutes from the train station. The nearest McDonald’s is less than 1km from Penrose, at 113 Aljunied Avenue 2.
For more varied options, head straight to Paya Lebar Square shopping mall. You can drop by Giant supermarket in basement one for some ready-to-eat meals while settling your groceries at the same time. There are fast food restaurants like Burger King, Japanese food chain Sakae Sushi, and a food court located within the mall.

On weekends when you need to disconnect from the city life, you can drive for about 15 minutes to get to MacRitchie Tree Top Carpark. Leave your car behind and get your body warmed-up before you tackle the TreeTop Walk via the Macritchie Treetop Walk Trailhead.
Singapore Island Country Club and SICC Millennium Golf Course are also within the vicinity if you prefer a morning golf session with your favourite kakis. Catch up session, maybe?

The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has announced the draft master plan specifically for Geylang and Marine Parade in 2019, which will benefit you if you’re planning to get a unit at Penrose.

Eldercare facility near Mattar MRT station

New expansion plans for Paya Lebar Central & Geylang Serai

New train stations
Set to be completed in 2023, you can expect better connectivity with new MRT stations such as Katong Park, Tanjong Katong, Marine Parade, and Marine Terrace via the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL).
